To Write Love on Her Arms Day - 25 September 2010

TWLOHA Day

On the 25th of September, 2010 there will be an Australia-wide To Write Love On Her Arms Day.

What is To Write Love On Her Arms?
To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA for short) is a movement dedicated to helping the fight against depression, addiction, self-harm and suicide. We are non-profit, non-commercial and non-religious. TWLOHA is people helping people, nothing more and nothing less.

What do I have to do?
Quite simply; write the word LOVE on your arm. That is all we ask of you. If you’d like to take a photo of it and post it to our group, we’d love that. We’d love you to tell your friends and family why you’ve written it there, and we’d love you to help them write love on their arms as well.

Can I get more information?
Yes you can! Check out our website at http://www.twloha.com.au/, post a comment on the wall of this event or the TWLOHA Australia group, or email support@twloha.com.au

The vision is the possibility that your best days are ahead.

The vision is the possibility that we’re more loved than we’ll ever know.

The vision is hope, and hope is real.

You are not alone, and this is not the end of your story.

Remember: Love is the Movement.

Charity project

Back in high school, we all wanted to save up for a heifer, but never thought we could do it.

I say we can.

I'm setting up a poll in the sidebar so everyone can vote on what you all want to donate our charity money to this year.

There are four options:
+ a COW via Compassion - $215
"This one is udderly awesome! A cow is a valuable asset for a rural family as they provide milk to drink or sell and extra income when calves are born. This gift can help support income-generating activities like raising cows and also includes support and education to help families successfully raise and care for their animals."

+ a HEIFER via the Tear Fund - $300
"When fully grown, heifers plough fields and provide fertiliser, milk, and offspring to increase local herds. When the first female calf is weaned, it is given to another poor household to share the benefits across the community. (Afghanistan, Cambodia, Uganda)"

+ a CALF via Oxfam - $203
"A good set of calves always looks impressive, and these beautiful bovines are no exception. A calf can provide a family with milk, keep their land fertile with manure and when the calf grows to a cow and has a calf of its own, it can be passed on to another family."

+ OTHER
Leave comments if you have other ideas (in the comments section of this post, not in the tags).

You have until the 13th of March to vote.

*silence*/finale!

Wow. Just... wow.

For those people who ended up going to Call+Response, did anyone else just feel like staring at the screen after the movie ended, just not knowing what to do?

I feel really convicted to do something. I can't just sit here and have all that knowledge and just carry on the way I've been living. What they said about the food we eat and the clothes we wear really struck home for me. Even though it's a lot more expensive (but probably not any better for you), I've decided that I'm going to stop buying Milo and drink fair trade stuff instead. I'm also going to try to buy fair trade stuff instead of regular stuff. This is gonna be hard. But Dot and I are going to the ANU food co-op shop which sells fair trade food and other stuff. We'll check it out and tell you guys about it on Sat!

Speaking of which:
9am Church for prayer <-- this is essential! We can't do anything without God being there, so we should acknowledge this and ask Him for His blessing and for His will to be done in everything we do. Please be praying for it NOW too!

Then heading to Mawson (Southlands Shopping Centre?) for some Christmas joy! We need people to make some signs to put up (Son's bringing cardboard & Von's bringing textas) and then to help with:
  • face-painting
  • BBQ
  • inviting people to come get a free sausage and to check out the book table where everything's free!
1:30pm Woden for lunch. Bring money!

3:30pm Von/Dot's house for Tehillah finale (see Son's email for more details). We'll have food for dinner but bring snacks/sugar if you want it. And drinks! :)

9pm Home time! Hopefully. We won't run as late as midnight, like last time... :$

Call + Response

I'm currently organising for our church to screen a film/documentary called Call+Response.

So keep the night of the 13th of December free, and I'll keep you guys updated.

Ta!

Ok, stealing first place on the blog. Sorry, Gelorge!

Everyone go check this site: http://www.twloha.com/vision/ and write LOVE on your arm tomorrow in support of people struggling with depression/suicidal thoughts/addiction/self-injury.

See you Saturday with your PARENTS and FOOD!

edited by dot: I seem to be editing every post these days. Fun for me! :D

This is a drawing my friend did for promo. Sorry about the lateness.
